Join us for an afternoon of unparalleled ambience while dining at the only true al fresco restaurant in Waikiki.  On refreshing, light and health conscious note, our entree-sized salads offer a variety of culinary options, including our very popular Papaya Chicken Salad.  This is an EYE OPENER for those who think healthy means bland.  A colorful rainbow of lusciously ripe fresh fruit enfolds the plate with a balanced symmetry, highlighting the half papaya on a bed of mixed greens filled with the most captivating chicken salad ever!  The rich taste belies the ingredients, showing off a complexity and depth of flavor that explains why this is one our most popular lunch selections.

Monthly Prix Fixe Dinner

The Hau Tree Lanai is perhaps Honolulu's favorite beachside restaurant.  Locals gravitate to its ideal location, just outside from Waikiki and at the beginning of Diamond Head's Gold Coast. The restaurant is located in The New Otani Kaimana Beach Hotel, an ideal place to start the day, enjoy a leisurely lunch or a romantic sunset dinner.  Diners sit alfresco beneath ancient Hau Trees.  Every month, our Executive Chef, Rene Caba, prepares a signature prix fix dinner menu.  Other dishes are also available to suite anyone’s palate.

Dinner

In addition to our continental cuisine with an island flair, our talked about seafood selections is something that needs to be personally experienced to be truly appreciated.

Choice of Fish

1. Opakapaka (Hawaiian Red Snapper): Has clean pink flesh that becomes white when cooked, it is sweet flavored and flaky.
2. Mahimahi: Hawaii's most popular fresh catch. Their flesh is off-white to pink, lean and firm with a sweet flavor and suited for a wide variety of preparations.
3. Ahi (Yellow Fin Tuna): Mackerel family mainly found in the tropical and sub tropical waters. Tuna flesh turns light gray when cooked and is very firm, with a mild flavor.
4. Onaga (Ruby Snapper,Ula Ula): Has clear, light pink flesh and known for its delicate flavor.
5. Opah (Moonfish): Its meat is lightly flavored, fish has a light pink to orange color, turns white when cooked.
6. Tai (Sea Bream, Red Porgy): White flesh, sweet flavor with slight flakeness when cooked.

Choice of Preparation

1. Sauteed: Dry heat cooking with small amount of fat, topped with Lemon Caper Beurre Blanc Sauce(Butter Sauce).
2. Cajun: Blacken with Spicy Cayenne Red Pepper Seasoning using dry heat cooking method on a heavy skillet pan with very little or no fat.
3. Steamed: Moist heat cooking method, oriental style with ginger, scallions, cilantro seasoned with Soy and splash of hot peanut oil on top of tofu and vegetables.
4. Pan Fried: Dry heat cooking with moderate amount of fat. sliced potato simulates fish scales as garnish served on Saffron Scallop Cream Sauce.
5. Baked: Process of surrounding food with dry heated air in closed environment. Crusted crab, shiitake mushroom, spinach and boursin cheese on a white wine dill sauce.

Wine

Whether you like red or white wine with fish, this is not a problem. Any dish can be paired with a captivatingly pleasurable wine by our sommelier. The wine list boasts excellent selections from $30 and up, representing many countries and styles served in Riedel stemware. There are wines and grapes you may not be familiar with, which will represent styles from delicately sweet to bone dry, elegant and femininely soft to muscled and full-bodied, simple and unassuming to complex and multi faceted. This opulent experience will keep you coming back to further explore the meanderings of our wine selections.

This friendly, casual cocktail lounge is located lobby level just above the Hau Tree Lanai Restaurant. The lounge offers beautiful sunset views, exotic tropical drinks and a delightful fare. Live entertainment Thursday – Sunday from 6 – 9 PM.
